Powell Hall in St Louis opened nearly 100 years ago, and has been home to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra since 1968. It’s iconic, historic… but, due for an update.
The big question is how do you bring a historic hall like this into the modern world without losing what made it special in the first place? After two years of renovation, I finally got to head inside for the reopening to explore the massive $140M transformation led by the visionary design team at Snøhetta, the brand new Jack C. Taylor Music Center, and the musicians, teams, and people who call this place home.
A big thank you
This video wouldn't have been possible without the collaboration of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. You can see the new hall and their upcoming season at www.slso.org .
The incredible drone tours of the new interior were filmed by Justin Barr at @STLFromAbove . You can see more of his stunning work here: www.stlfromabove.com.
